Our Instructors & Staff Members

Our Instructors have spent many years devoted to training in the martial arts and have attained a certain level of expertise to qualify them as teachers and also mentors.

Through extensive testing, certification and tournament level competition, our staff has attained mastery in this martial art and now enjoy sharing their skill and passing it on to their students. Here are a few of Delta One Martial Arts and Fitness Center, Inc.'s instructors and other staff members, starting with Sifu Tim Calvin:

Sifu Tim Calvin  (4th Degree Black Belt / Chief Instructor)  Sifu Tim is a 4th degree black belt in Kajukenbo Karate, a 1st degree black belt in Senkotiros (Philippine Stick Fighting) and has trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Kickboxing and Tae Kwon Do. Prior to becoming a martial arts school owner, Sifu Tim worked for the Oakland Police Department for (2) two years and for the Novato Police Department for (6) six years. While being employed as a Police Officer, Sifu Tim worked as an Undercover Narcotics Officer in Oakland, a Defensive Tactics Instructor, an ASP Baton Instructor and a member of Novato's SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) Team. Sifu Tim is also a former Marine. He spent (6) six years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a H.A.W.K. Missile Operator and was Honorably Discharged as an E-5 (Sgt.). Sifu Tim is a devoted husband and loving father and he has dedicated his life to sharing the gift of the martial arts with as many people as he can. He works extremely well with youth and he believes that the best way to teach them and make an impact in their lives is to combine love with discipline.

Tammy Calvin  (Green / Director)  Mrs. Calvin is currently a green belt in Kajukenbo Karate and a former employee/supervisor of the Contra Costa Countys' "Public Defenders" Office. Tammy is the Senior Program Director / Office Administrator for Delta One and has been since 2002.

Sifu Jarell Calvin  (3rd Degree Black Belt / Black Belt Instructor) Sifu Jarell is Sifu Tims' and Mrs. Tammy Calvins' son. Sifu Jarell, though young (16 years old) is a talented martial artist and instructor. Sifu Jarell is a 3rd degree black belt and is one of Sifu Tim's first black belts. Sifu Jarell is also a National Competitor in point sparring and open forms. Sifu Jarell is a 2x Regional Champion in point sparring, being named the "Fighter of the Year" in 2004 and 2006, and "Open Forms Competitor of the Year" in 2009 in AMAPA, Northern Californias' oldest and most prestigious Martial Arts Tournament Circuit. Sifu Jarell is co-captain of our Demo Team, a member of our Kickboxing Team and the captain of our Point Sparring Team. Sifu Jarell is an outstanding instructor, receiving personal instruction from his father, Sifu Tim in how to lead and instruct small children.

Sifu Mitch Tse  (2nd Degree Black Belt / Black Belt Instructor) Sifu Mitch is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Kajukenbo Karate. Sifu Mitch is one of our most knowledgable and detailed instructors. He, along with his lovely wife Simu Sue and their two children, Jason and Athena have made "Delta One" their home. They are the embodiment of our school, showing how the martial arts can make a positive impact in the lives of families and bring them closer together.

Simu Sue Tse  (2nd Degree Black Belt / Black Belt Instructor) Simu Sue is a 2nd degree Black Belt in Kajukenbo Karate. She is a phenominal instructor, kind, patient, inspirational and encouraging. She is one of the most well liked and popular instructors at Delta One. Her wonderful attitude and exceptional ability to work with children makes her one of the most outstanding instructors we currently have.

Sifu Ed Rhodes  (2nd Degree Black Belt / Black Belt Instructor) Sifu Ed is a 2nd degree Black Belt in Kajukenbo and he also trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with Ceasar Gracie. Sifu Ed is a Black Belt Instructor and the Coach of our "Grappling" Team. Sifu Ed is also a personal trainer, and formerly trained in Won Hop Kuen Do a variation of Kajukenbo. Sifu Ed helps teach our Adult class, our Black Belt Prep. School and he teaches our Make-Up classes on Saturdays.

Sifu Eric Day  (1st Degree Black Belt / Black Belt Instructor)  Sifu Eric is a 1st Degree Black Belt in Kajukenbo and a 1st Degree Black Belt in Isshin Ryu Karate. Sifu Eric has been training in the martial arts for over 10 years and is currently competing Nationally in the NBL and NASKA in Open/Creative Forms and Weapons. He is also a member of Team Pro-Rank, a National Martial Arts Competition Team and the captain of our Open/Weapons Forms Competition Team.

Sifu Sean Burke  (3rd Degree Black Belt) Sifu Sean, along with Sifu Tim's son Sifu Jarell are Sifu Tim's first black belts. Sifu Sean is a 3rd degree black belt and has been training with Sifu Tim since he was 5 years old. Sifu Sean is a member of our Demo Team, Open Forms Team and Kickboxing Team.

Sifu Antjuan Robinson  (Head Instructor / 3rd Degree Black Belt) Sifu Antjuan is a 3rd degree black belt in Kajukenbo Karate. Sifu Antjuan has studied the martial arts with Sifu Tim for 10 years. Sifu Antjuan is a member of the Demo Team.

Simu Leah Dedmon  (3rd Degree Black Belt) Simu Leah is a 3rd degree black belt in Kajukenbo and our Assistant Program Director. Simu Leah is the coach of our traditional forms team and a 4.0 GPA student and a Senior at Freedom High School.
